Jim was born August 20, 1956, in Sedalia to the late Jesse and Mary Jo McMullin. He attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1974, then received his Associate degree from State Fair Community College in 1976.  He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business in 1978 from Central Missouri State University.

On August 21, 1976, Jim married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Lange and together they raised three children.  He instilled in his children the practice of hard work, honesty and most of all, family.

Jim was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and served in various parish leadership positions.

Jim was a farmer at heart, he owned and operated his own farm for more than 50 years. Wherever he went, he would pick up a little bit of soil and rub it between his fingers to identify the type of soil structure that was present.   He believed in preserving the land via soil and water management to prevent erosion and provide natural habitat for wildlife.  He was also very focused on improving livestock genetics in both swine and cattle.

Jim worked various jobs off the farm over the years when needed to support his passion of farming.  In later years, Jim was an insurance agent focused on helping the elderly.

Jim served his community in several facets.  He was the Pettis County Western District Commissioner and later served as the Pettis County Presiding Commissioner. He also served on the Production Credit Association Board of Directors for Central Missouri, was a 4-H leader and belonged to Central Missouri Ag Club.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years; Sharon, his sons Matt McMullin of LaMonte, Ben McMullin (Alana) of Lee Summit, and his daughter Laura Carter (Sean) of Eudora, KS.  Together, Jim and Sharon have seven grandchildren that he adored: Mason and Reed McMullin, Liliana, Sean Thomas, Daisy and Patrick James Carter and Mary Kate McMullin. He is survived by one brother Tom McMullin (Sandra) of Sedalia; sisters Rose and Jane McMullin both of LaMonte and many nieces and nephews.

Being a father and grandfather was his proudest accomplishment and he will be dearly missed.
