JT Realmuto had two three-run home runs for the Philadelphia Phillies, overwhelming the Kansas City Royals 11-2 on Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium.
Both Realmuto home runs came with no outs, and were sent to left field, the second one landing in the fountains. Realmuto’s first home run ended Brady Singer’s night, who didn’t record an out in the sixth and ended up allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out five. Chris Stratton gave up the other home run.
The Phillies opened the scoring in the third inning with a single from Trea Turner, followed in the fifth by a double from Bryce Harper. Kansas City got on the board in the home half of the fifth when Freddy Fermin singled in Michael Massey. Fermin would also record the other Royals RBI on a sac fly in the seventh, while the Phillies would add three runs in the sixth, five in the eighth, and one in the ninth.
Cleveland and Minnesota winning means that the Royals (72-57) are back in a tie for second with Minnesota, two games behind the Guardians, while Boston are four-and-a-half behind. The Royals look for the series win against Phillies on Sunday afternoon at 1:10, with Seth Lugo on the mound for the Royals against Kolby Allard. Pregame coverage on KMMO AM 1300 beings at 12:30.
