police-arrest-2

A Lee’s Summit man is facing three felony charges after leading law enforcement on a chase out of Sedalia and into a neighboring county.

The Sedalia Police Department reports that officers attempted to pull over an SUV on West Broadway around 10:35 p.m. Saturday, noticing that its license plate was expired. The vehicle’s driver refused to stop and gave chase, continuing west out of the city. A Pettis County Sheriff’s deputy joined the pursuit outside Dresden, which soon crossed into Johnson County, where deputies deployed stop sticks to disable the vehicle near the intersection of Routes 50 and D outside Knob Noster.

Deputies arrested Raymon McCoy of Lee’s Summit and took him to the Pettis County Jail. Online court records show McCoy having outstanding warrants for his arrest and several prior convictions, including unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with a motor vehicle, as well as driving with a revoked or suspended driver’s license. During a search of McCoy’s vehicle, officers say they discovered a white crystal substance and an empty handgun magazine. Deputies say the substance weighed three-tenths of a gram and tested positive for fentanyl. Another container was discovered with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The Pettis County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against McCoy of trafficking drugs, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest. McCoy’s arraignment was held Monday morning. His bond is set at 200-thousand dollars.

A counsel status hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 27.
