The Marshall Municipal Court building could soon have a new owner after the Marshall City Council agreed to a contract with a real estate developer.
By a 5-2 vote at Tuesday night’s meeting, the council authorized Mayor Vince Lutterbie to enter into a contract where the city would sell the site of the court building to The Overland Group, who is working with Dollar General to add another location in Marshall. The contract would give Overland up to six months to close on the property for $150,000, provided they agree to build a DG Fresh offering fresh produce, fresh meats, dairy products, refrigerated and frozen foods, and other grocery offerings among general merchandise. Both readings of the ordinance authorizing the contract were opposed by council members Drew Green and Nathan Swisher.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Marshall City Council gave first reading to the budget for the next fiscal year, as well as the annual operating budget for the city’s Board of Public Works and proposed changes to the city’s electric rates as approved last month by public works. The council also approved a request for street closures for the Marshall Chamber of Commerce’s Trick or Treat around the Square on Oct. 24th.
