Luken Baker’s two-out single in the tenth gave the St Louis Cardinals their second straight extra-innings win in Milwaukee, posting a 3-2 victory in ten innings Wednesday night at Miller Park.

Baker’s single brought in Masyn Winn to make sure the Cardinals didn’t squander the early gifts that Milwaukee had given, as Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea walked two Cardinals batters with the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning. Cardinals starter Sonny Gray allowed an RBI ground out to Joey Ortiz in the seventh, while JoJo Romero blew his eighth save of the season in the next inning when Eric Haase hit his fourth home run of the season to tie the game. Gray went seven innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out seven. Andrew Kittredge picked up the win after going 1.2 innings, striking out two while walking one.

Despite taking two out of three from Milwaukee, the Cardinals (71-69) couldn’t make up any ground in the NL wild card race as Atlanta, New York, and Chicago all won Wednesday night. After an off day Thursday, the Cardinals will return home to face a Seattle squad also in the midst of a longshot bid for a wild card berth.
