The St Louis Cardinals allowed all three of Cincinnati’s runs with one out in the fifth, resulting in the Reds posting a 3-0 shutout of the Cardinals on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.
TJ Freidl singled in a pair of runners to start the scoring, then advanced to second when Cardinals starter Andre Pallante was called for a disengagement violation. Freidl would then score on a groundout from Ty France to complete the scoring.
Pallante was also called for a balk and threw a wild pitch during his five innings of work. He allows all three runs on six hits and five walks while striking out six in the loss, his eighth of the season. Rhett Lowder picked up the win, as four Reds relievers contributed to the shutout effort.
The Cardinals (72-72) are back at .500 and 11 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central, trailing the Braves and Mets in the NL Wild Card standings by 6.5 games. The Cardinals look to rebound Wednesday evening, with first pitch at 6:45.
