The Kansas City Royals will finish the season with a winning record for the first time since 2015, following a 5-1 victory Saturday afternoon over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The feat was achieved in part by Bobby Witt Junior’s 100th RBI of the season, when he hit a solo home run in the first inning.  Witt also brought in runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a double in the seventh. Maikel Garcia doubled in a run in the fifth, while a fielding error in the sixth brought home Michael Massey. Oneil Cruz had Pittsburgh’s only RBI, a single in the bottom of the fifth.

Michael Wacha picked up his 13th win of the year, allowing the lone run on four hits and three walks while striking out eight.

The Royals are 82-67, three games behind Cleveland in the AL Central and two games shy of Baltimore for the first wild card. They go for the sweep Sunday afternoon, with pregame at noon and first pitch at 12:35 on KMMO AM 1300.
