The Kansas City Current’s breakout star forward Temwa Chawinga became the first player in the National Women’s Soccer League to score against all 13 opposing franchises in a season, doing so in the second half of Saturday’s 4-1 victory against the San Diego Wave at CPKC Stadium.
Chawinga netted her goal in the 54th minute, extending the Current’s lead to 3-0 after a first-half goal from Michelle Cooper, followed by an own goal by the Wave. Debinha added the Current’s final goal of the match. The Current have 54 goals on the season, tying the record set by the North Carolina Courage in 2019. Kansas City also set an NWSL milestone by becoming the first team to sell out all their home games during the regular season.
Kansas City catapult to second place with the win, currently with 52 points. Both Gotham FC and Washington Spirit playing today (Sunday). The Current turn their attention back to the Summer Cup, as the championship match is Friday night in San Antonio against Gotham FC. The regular season concludes November 3rd in Chicago, with the playoffs to begin November 8th in Kansas City.

Both Sporting Kansas City and St Louis City SC closed out their less-than-stellar seasons with road losses Saturday, Oct. 19.
Sporting KC conceded both goals in a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas in the first half. Petar Musa opened the scoring in Frisco for Dallas, then extended the lead on Joaquín Fernández’ own goal, the fourth coughed up by Sporting in the season. KC pulled a goal back in the 89th minute with Willie Agada’s club-leading tenth goal of the year. Sporting KC end the season second from the bottom of the Western Conference on 31 points, but with a bid in hand to the CONCACAF Champions League next season by virtue of finishing runner-up in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to Los Angeles FC.
St Louis City SC were tagged for four goals at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night by Minnesota United, ending their season with that heavy 4-1 loss. Marcel Hartel netted City’s lone goal in the 75th minute, after Minnesota United made it two-nil just minutes earlier with the first of two goals on the night for Sang Bin Jeong. City also victimized themselves with an own goal, with Henry Kessler doing so in the 78th minute. The season ends with Saint Louis City SC twelfth in the Western Conference on 37 points.
