The Sedalia 200 Board of Education’s meeting last week took place in the recently renovated gymnasium at Sedalia Middle School, which is receiving upgrades before next year’s move of all fourth-grade classes to the building.

Board members toured the building and received progress updates prior to the meeting, according to Superintendent Dr Todd Fraley. The board then reviewed several items pertaining to the middle school. Among those was a grant for more playground equipment.

The board accepted the $93,691 grant. Board members also discussed the transfer of 16 teachers and staff from the district’s elementary schools to the middle school next summer, when fourth graders are moved under one roof.

Sedalia’s school board also received an update on plans to install a turf surface for the middle school playground, as well as those at Parkview and Skyline elementary schools. The board is expected to vote on the project at their November meeting. Also last week, the board received a presentation from seven teachers who took part in the “Get Your Teach On” professional development conference in Orlando earlier this year, and recognized Brian Foster for earning Central Region Middle School Activities Director of the Year honors.
