Both the Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s soccer teams advanced in the NAIA coaches Top 25 polls this week.
The final regular season edition of the poll has the men’s team sitting fourth in the nation, recording wins over Baker and Benedictine while being held to a draw by Graceland. William Penn remains right behind the Vikings in fifth, while MidAmerica Nazarene is in 24th. This is the 49th straight poll where the Viking men are ranked. The Vikings defeated Park on Wednesday night 2-1 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference quarterfinal, with first-half goals from Sam Green and Yoshiki Igarashi. Top-seeded Missouri Valley will host fifth-seed Baker on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the semifinals.
The women’s squad comes in at 17th this week, up one spot from last week. The Vikings picked up wins over Baker and Graceland, while Tuesday’s quarterfinal victory against Mount Mercy did not factor into the poll. Across the river, Central Methodist checks in at 12th. The Vikings host MidAmerica Nazarene on Friday night at 7 p.m., for a conference tournament semifinal.
Also on Wednesday, the Heart announced their all-conference team, with seven men’s players making the list. Forward Sam Green picked up Heart Player of the Year honors, while Kazuki Hashimoto claimed the Heart Defensive Player of the Year award. This also marks Hashimoto’s fourth all-conference selection, while Green makes his third all-conference appearance. Also making their way to the all-conference first team are defender Jacob Adams, goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado, and midfielders Yoshiki Igarashi and Tate Richards. Midfielder Malik Hasanovic was named to the third team. Additionally, head coach Vladimir Simic was named the Heart Coach of the Year, claiming the honor for the fifth time in his career.
