Kansas City Royals Manager Matt Quatraro joins two of his players as finalists for American League honors from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

The Royals skipper is in the running for the group’s AL Manager of the Year Award, alongside Central division rivals AJ Hinch of Detroit and Stephen Vogt of Cleveland. Quatraro entered the season with his seat on the bench warming as the Royals had posted a 56-106 record in 2023, before the team clicked and stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot throughout the year, briefly tying for first in the division. The Royals finished the regular season 86-76 and defeated Baltimore to advance to the American League Division Series.

Bobby Witt Jr will face a pair of Yankees in his bid to become the American League’s Most Valuable Player. The Gold Glove-winning shortstop is a finalist for the top prize along with outfielders Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. And Seth Lugo is a finalist for the Cy Young award for the AL’s top pitcher. He’s also alongside finalists from the Central, Emmanuel Clase of Cleveland and Tarik Skubal of Detroit.

Award winners for both the American and National leagues will be announced next week.
