Two Johnson County residents suffered moderate injuries after a head-on collision outside Holden on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash after 4 p.m. on Route 58 just west of Southwest 1081st Road. According to the report, a 17-year-old from Centerview was driving his truck eastbound when he attempted to slow for traffic, only for his brakes to fail. He attempted to swerve around the slowing vehicle in front of him to avoid a collision. Instead the truck collided head-on with a pickup driven by a 49-year-old man from Holden. The eastbound truck’s driver was taken to a Kansas City area hospital, while the westbound driver was treated at a nearby hospital. Troopers say both drivers were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
