The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved a motion to replace a water main on College Street during its meeting on Wednesday, November 27.

Most of the six-inch main on College Street was installed in the 1930s, and has failed several times in recent years. The Water Distribution Department wants to replace the cast iron main with a new six-inch C900 plastic water main. The budget for this project was set at $270,000, with MMU using in-house labor and equipment.

The board approved the project as presented. The exact timeline for the project has not been set yet, but MMU anticipates for the work to begin in Spring 2025.

In other news, the board approved a bid to replace filter drain/surface valves and actuators for the Water Treatment Plant. Three bids were received and all three came in under budget. After some discussion, the board voted to accept the low bid from Alliance Pump and Mechanical Service in the amount of $101,926.
