Wendell Richard Leonard Schmidt, 86, of Waverly, MO, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Mark Junkin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Waverly Cemetery Buck-Corder-Cary Addition.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born December 15, 1937, in Boonville, he was the son of the late Herbert Benjamin Schmidt and Laura K. Buhlig Schmidt.  On April 4, 1959, he married Lora L. “Lolly” Schroeder who survives of the home.  Wendell began working at the General Motors Leeds Plant in Kansas City in December of 1959 and retired from there after 30 years of service.  He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waverly and their Men’s Club.  Wendell enjoyed being involved in the community.  He served on the Santa Fe School Board from 1974-1975, served as president and member of Waverly Jaycees, played on the Waverly town basketball team and the Ban Johnson baseball team in Lexington, as well as coaching the American Legion baseball team in Waverly.  In addition to being active in the community and church, Wendell enjoyed farming, fishing, coon hunting, as well as dove and quail hunting.

In addition to his wife, Lolly; he is survived by three children: Wendell R. “Rick” Schmidt (Connie) of Waverly, Mark Schmidt (Diane) of Waverly and Stacie Lee Woods (Rusty) of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Schmidt (Donna) of Blue Springs; one sister, Joan Waddell of Lincoln, NE; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert William Schmidt; and one sister, Audrey Lou Kesemann.
