Robert Thomas scored once and assisted on another goal to lead the St Louis Blues to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Enterprise Center.
About halfway through the second period, Thomas claimed a loose puck on the Blues end of the ice and went the distance, lacing home an unassisted wrist shot to give the Blues their third goal of the night and Thomas’ sixth of the season. He provided an assist on the opening goal late in the first, which Pavel Buchnevich slapped home. Jordan Kyrou also scored for the Blues, his 13th of the season. The Rangers scored twice in 81 seconds during the final frame, but were unable to tie the game as Joel Hofer recorded 26 saves.
The Blues improve to 33 points on the season, but are still sixth in the Central Division as Utah have two games in hand. They’re now two points behind the Canucks for the second Western Conference wild card spot, who have three games in hand. The Blues await the New Jersey Devils for a Tuesday night tilt at Enterprise Center; puck drop is at 7 p.m.
