Use tax collections slowed significantly during November for Saline County, but they were still high enough to allow the county to top $1 million collected in 2024.

The monthly figures from the Missouri Department of Revenue and presented by Treasurer Jared Brewer showed use tax collections for 2024 totaling $1,036,391.70, a 17-percent jump from the previous year. On average, Saline County received an extra $12,000 per month in use tax. The milestone came despite a 29-percent drop in collections during November, which were remitted to the county by the state in early December. Collections totaled $68,377.16, down $28,145.83 from the previous month and over $21,017.19 behind the same month a year ago.

Sales tax collections were marginally higher in November than the previous month. Saline County’s sales tax collections totaled $111,570.19, which were $2569.06 better than October’s haul, but $1865.74 behind the same month a year ago. Similar margins were reported for the county’s economic development and law enforcement taxes. Year-to-date, $1,390,240.86 were collected in sales tax, a four-percent increase from 2023.
