Concordia and Lincoln did what they normally do on Saturday and that’s split their girl/boy doubleheader held annually at the W-K Holiday Shootout hosted by State Fair Community College in Sedalia.

As has been the case for several years now, in games heard on KMMO Radio, Concordia won the girls’ contest, 40-30 prior to Lincoln blowing out the Oriole boys in their matchup, 56-24.

Concordia Girls Beat Lincoln Again

The Lady Orioles grabbed the lead early and slowly increased their advantage until the waning minutes of the game.

The I-70 Conference school was on top, 13-6 after one quarter and 19-12 at the half. From there, Concordia was in front, 40-24 midway through the fourth quarter when the Lady Cardinals scored the last six points of the contest to slice the final margin to 40-30.

Now 5-2 for the season, the Lady Orioles were paced by 17 points from Olivia Hemme while Ava Mueller chipped in with 11. The Concordia girls thus have a winning streak against Lincoln that now spans more than a decade and a half.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals fell to 5-5 on the year as freshman Lilly Mellen tallied 16 points to pace them.

Lincoln Boys Have No Trouble

In Saturday evening’s finale, the Cardinal boys took advantage of a cold-shooting and undermanned Concordia team to turn an 8-8 tie midway through the first period into a 15-8 lead following the opening eight minutes and then a 29-15 margin once halftime rolled around.

From there, the turbo-clock went into effect early in the fourth quarter after Lincoln went in front by a 30-point differential.

With two starters missing, Concordia scored but nine points in the final half as they lost, 56-24.

Winning their sixth outing in a row, the Cardinals improved to 8-1 on the season. Ten players scored for them with Riley Sanders tallying a game-high 15 points.

The Orioles saw a three-game winning streak end while dropping to 4-4 overall. Kellen Fiene paced Concordia with 13 points as his last two free throws of the contest, which came during the fourth quarter, gave him 1,000 for his career.

Other Results From Saturday

In other scores from Saturday’s final session of the W-K Shootout in Sedalia:

Appleton City’s girls kicked things off by routing the Green Ridge Lady Tigers, 74-30. That result preceded the 38-37 victory by Green Ridge over the Appleton City boys where the Tigers won that game on a free throw with 10 seconds to go.

After that, the Northwest of Hughesville girls pulled away down the stretch to defeat Bunceton/Otterville, 48-32.  Gabby Meyer tallied 30 points to lead the Lady Mustangs as Northwest’s defense turned a 25-24 halftime advantage into a 16-point win by holding Bunceton/Otterville to just eight points during the final two periods.

Then, in the boys’ matchup afterwards, Northwest held a narrow lead through much of the last half with the Mustangs edging out the Eagles, 42-37.
