The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for its next bridge replacement project in Chariton County as part of the Northwest Bridge Bundle.

MoDOT crews will close the Route D bridge over Mussel Fork, located west of the Lake Nehai community, on Jan. 20. The current bridge was built in 1947 and handles fewer than 200 vehicles per day. However, it’s among the 31 bridges in North Central Missouri that MoDOT considers to be in poor condition and in need of replacement. The replacement span is expected to open in June.

MoDOT has already completed five replacement or rehabilitation projects in Chariton County and continues to work on the new bridge for Route 11 over Salt Creek south of Mendon. In Carroll County, the Route J bridge over Bridge Creek, west of Hale, remains slated for closure beginning this Monday.
