In observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day, federal, state and locals offices are closed Monday, Jan. 20, resulting in several cities moving their council meetings to Tuesday evening.

Six meetings normally scheduled for the third Monday of the month are now set to take place Tuesday evening. At 5 p.m., the Concordia Board of Aldermen will meet, with items on the agenda including the establishment of rates for individual season passes to the aquatic center and pegging the city’s use tax equal to that of the city’s sales tax collected on online sales. The question to impose the use tax would go before voters in August.

The City Council in Moberly meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday. In Moberly, the council will consider whether to refer to voters on the April ballot a measure to extend their one-half-cent sales tax funding transportation projects.

Sedalia’s city council will also consider a sales tax increase when they meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A split council at their last meeting directed city staff to draft a proposed ballot measure that if passed, would levy a one-eighth cent sales tax for general purposes, with transportation needs among the top priorities. The council will also take a second look at the proposed ordinance to add about 40 blocks of Downtown Sedalia to the city’s Chapter 353 Midtown Residential Area Development District.

The Boonville City Council’s meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday to consider a change order for renovations at the local YMCA, amounting to over 55-hundred dollars.

The Higginsville Board of Aldermen will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the only agenda item a measure to move their second meeting in February to Tuesday, Feb. 19, because of the Presidents’ Day holiday.
