Boonville Police made an arrest Tuesday, Jan. 29 after a fight on school property sent a student to the hospital.

According to a statement on the department’s Facebook page, officers responded to Boonville High School around 3 p.m. to assist the school resource officer in dealing with an assault that happened in the school’s parking lot. Preliminary information released by police indicates that two students were fighting, and during the encounter one student “sustained a laceration to the abdomen”. That student was taken to a Columbia hospital. The other student was arrested and taken to the Cooper County Jail. Charges against the suspect are pending. Police say their investigation continues.
