
Donald Wayne Hurd, 82, of Higginsville, MO, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Higginsville, with Pastor David Auxier officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment with military rites will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Mission Department in Higginsville or Sweet Springs American Legion Post 279 in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born June 8, 1942, on the Hurd farm in rural Pettis County, MO, he was the son of the late John T. Hurd and May Tennessee Kindle Hurd. On October 18, 1962, he married Phyllis Ann Owsley who survives of the home. Don served in the United States Army and was a member of American Legion Post 279 in Sweet Springs. His working years were spent as a truck driver and mechanic, and he was also employed with Gieselman Trucking in Corder. In his youth, he was well known for being an outstanding baseball pitcher. Don was a racing fan for many years, enjoyed local races and Hurd Brothers Racing became the new hobby. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Higginsville.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis; one daughter, Paula Robinson (Marty) of Odessa, MO; two grandchildren, Taylor Robinson (Christina) of Marshall and Carlee Robinson of Kansas City, MO; two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Walker Robinson; one sister-in-law, Nadine Hurd of Billings, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Carroll, Melvin and John W. Hurd.
