It took an extra three minutes and 27 seconds, but the St Louis Blues snatched their tenth straight win with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, April 1 at Enterprise Center.

Robert Thomas shuffled the puck to Cam Fowler at center ice, who completed the breakaway by launching a backhander over Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot and into the back of the net. The goal gave Thomas his 50th assist of the season, and completed a comeback that saw the Blues almost shutout. The contest was scoreless through two periods, before J T Compher broke the deadlock with a wrist shot five minutes into the third. With less than 30 seconds to go and Jordan Binnington pulled for a sixth attacker, Fowler along with Dylan Holloway relayed the puck to Jordan Kyrou, who slid his snap shot under Talbot to force overtime and continue to set the pace in the wild card race.

The Blues won 55 percent of faceoffs and outshot the Wings 37-21, with the Blues’ first 35 shots all stopped by Talbot.

With six games to go, the Blues are now in the first wild card position with 89 points, one ahead of a Minnesota Wild squad that has a game in hand; they’ll visit the New York Rangers tonight. Calgary and Vancouver have two games in hand, with Calgary sitting on 82 points and Vancouver on 81. Calgary fell to Utah 3-1 yesterday, while the Canucks will host Seattle this evening at 8:30 p.m. The Blues will remain at home Thursday night, when Pittsburgh pay a visit; puck drop is at 7 p.m.
