A grand jury in Pettis County has handed down an indictment against a Sedalia man accused of assaulting law enforcement.

The grand jury’s indictment charges Jacob Basham with third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and second-degree property damage. The charges stem from an incident on May 30, 2024, when deputies with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance. According to a probable cause statement, two victims accused Basham of breaking a window in their residence. Basham had been detained by deputies for questioning when he began to resist arrest. A Sedalia Police sergeant then arrived to provide assistance. The report accuses Basham of kicking officers and trying to throw one of them off. The sergeant complained about pain in his ribs and chest following the incident.

Basham’s arraignment is scheduled for the morning of May 5.
