A traffic backup on Interstate 70 on Monday, April 21 led to a two-vehicle crash, resulting in serious injury to a Belton man.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 2:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate, about three miles east of the Emma junction where a bridge replacement project got underway yesterday. According to the patrol’s report, a Freightliner had stopped in the interstate because of traffic. That’s when a 33-year-old man from Belton attempted to overtake the Freightliner in his own truck, but struck the other semi’s towed unit. The Belton man suffered serious injury and was flown to a Kansas City area hospital. The driver of the other truck had no reported injuries.
