The Kansas City Royals’ offense had to work extra to avoid squandering the stellar start from Kris Bubic, going 11 innings to defeat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday, April 22 at Kauffman Stadium.

Bubic went seven innings for the first time in nearly three years, keeping the Rockies off the board with six strikeouts and allowing just four hits. The Royals were also scoreless through five, before Drew Waters got to Ryan Feltner with a solo home run to center field. Waters also scored in the eighth off a Kyle Isbel single. The lead would not hold, as Carlos Estévez allowed a two-out, two-strike, bases clearing double to Jacob Stallings that gave the Rockies the lead. The Rockies would only enjoy that lead for three batters, as Freddy Fermin came home on a sacrifice fly from Michael Massey. Fermin would drive home the winning run in the 11th with a blooper to center field that scored Mark Canha.

Daniel Lynch IV was credited with the win, striking out one while walking another in his lone inning on the mound.

The Royals are now 10-14 on the year, four-and-a-half games behind the Cleveland Guardians. The interleague series continues Wednesday with Michael Lorenzen getting the start for Kansas City. Pregame begins at 6 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9, with first pitch around 6:40 p.m.
