waverly-mrwa-tap-water-contest

The best-tasting water in Missouri can be found in Lafayette County, at least according to the Missouri Rural Water Association (MRWA) 2025 Show-Me Tap Water Roundup. The City of Waverly captured top honors in the competition as its water sample competed with finalists from 3 other municipalities and a POA subdivision: the cities of Berger, Koshkonong, and Salem and Stonebridge West Subdivision.

Representatives from the 5 competing systems were present to witness the judging of the samples. The contest, held at the MRWA Open House on Wednesday, April 23, was judged by Charlie Zitnik with D A Davidson, MRWA Region VII Director and Vice President Paul Michael Shaw, and President/Owner of the Rocket Group ad agency Gus Wagner.

For the taste test, there are 3 criteria upon which each sample is judged with a possible 10 points in each category from each judge totaling 90 possible points:
-Clarity: signifying the sample is free of particles or debris and is clear without discoloration.
-Bouquet: signifying the sample is odor-free and without smell.
-Taste: signifying the sample has a satisfying and palatable taste.

Waverly’s Chief Water Operator Tammy Hamblen and City Clerk Crystal Faler, were present to acknowledge the city’s accomplishment with the win.

The City of Waverly’s water system serves approximately 860 customers through 355 service connections.

The next stage for the City of Waverly will be a national one. Its water will represent Missouri at the National Rural Water Association Rural Water Rally in February 2026 in Washington, D.C. This parent organization of the MRWA hosts a nationwide Great American Water Taste Test each year to determine which state has the best-tasting water.
