A head-on collision in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Saline County on Tuesday, April 29 claimed the life of a driver from the St Louis area.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that a 72-year-old from Florissant was driving west on Interstate 70 about a mile west of Sweet Springs, when at around 9 p.m., he crossed the median and began traveling in the eastbound lanes. The SUV stopped in the roadway, only to be hit by another SUV, driven by a 59-year-old man from St Louis. The Florissant man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the St Louis man was flown to a Kansas City hospital with serious injuries. Troopers say the deceased driver had not been wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
