
The Kansas City Royals swept the Tampa Bay Rays behind an 8-2 win on Thursday.
Yandy Díaz got the Rays on the board in the first inning with a solo shot off of Seth Lugo.
The Kansas City bats finally woke up in the fourth, when Michael Massey tied the game with a sac fly. An inning later, Bobby Witt Jr. extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a two-run home run to give Kansas City the lead for good. Salvador Perez added an RBI double to make it 4-1.
The Royals continued to pour it on, adding three more runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth.
Lugo picked up his third win of the season, going six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Daniel Lynch IV, Angel Zerpa, and Chris Stratton would blank the Rays in the final three innings to put the finishing touches on a three-game sweep of the Rays.
