Sporting Kansas City failed to register a shot on goal, but made Los Angeles Galaxy’s own-goal in the 13th minute stand in their 1-0 victory Sunday, May 4 over the winless Galaxy at Children’s Mercy Park.
The Galaxy doomed themselves in the battle of the Western Conference’s two worst teams when Sporting captain Daniel Salloi sent a pass across the face of goal, which Galaxy defender Maya Yoshida redirected into the back of his own net. The Galaxy recorded 11 shots, including one on target, but were unable to outwit Sporting keeper Jon Pulskamp.
Sporting become the first team in MLS history to win a match despite recording no shots on goal. They now move into 12th in the Western Conference with 10 points, jumping ahead of St Louis City and Houston by virtue of their third win in five games. They head on the road Saturday to face the Portland Timbers; kickoff at Providence Park is at 9:30 p.m.
