The Kansas City Current snapped their two-game losing streak and returned to the top of the NWSL standings with a 4-1 Mothers’ Day victory over Bay FC on Sunday, May 11.
The Current set the tone early at CPKC Stadium, when Hailie Mace picked off Jordan Silkowitz’s goal kick in the third minute, then connecting with Bia Zaneratto, who buried her shot into the bottom corner of the net. Debinha collected her two goals in quick succession later in the first half, first with a well-placed shot in the 31st minute, then curling a free kick seven minute later over a wall of Bay FC defenders. After Bay FC’s lone goal in the 53rd minute, Temwa Chawinga restored the three-goal margin in the 61st minutes when she outpaced several defenders after taking a pass from Mace, ultimately beating Silkowitz on a one-on-one to goal.
The Current remain undefeated at home, winning all four contests this season at CPKC Stadium, to stake a two-point advantage on the Orlando Pride atop the NWSL standings. The Current travel to Orlando this Friday evening.
