The St. Louis Cardinals got a rare poor start from Matthew Liberatore, falling 11-1 to the Texas Rangers on Friday, May 30.

Texas got to Liberatore early, tagging him with five runs in the first two innings. Liberatore would go the next three innings scoreless, as he finished the day giving up five runs (four earned) and seven hits over five innings.

The bullpen didn’t fare much better for the Cardinals, as Gordon Graceffo and Matt Svanson gave up a combine six runs over two innings of work.

Texas starter Jack Leiter held the Cardinals in check, permitting no runs over 5.2 innings of work. St. Louis did finally get on the board in the eighth after a Lars Nootbar double, but that would be the only highlight as Texas outhit St. Louis 15-5.

The Cardinals fall to 32-25, but remain three games back of the NL Central lead after the Cubs fell to the Reds. The series in Texas will continue today. First pitch is at 3:05 p.m.
