The St Louis Cardinals were limited to three hits as the Milwaukee Brewers claimed a 6-0 shutout Thursday, June 12 at American Family Field in Milwaukee to start the four-game series.

The Brewers scored in the second inning, when a two-out triple from Isaac Collins set up an RBI single from Brice Turang. Milwaukee’s barrage came in the fifth, when Joey Ortiz picked up an RBI double, followed by a single from Sal Frelick and two-run home run from Jackson Chourio. Milwaukee collected 12 hits in the win, with Frelick going three-for-four and the Brewers going three-for-four with runners in scoring position. The Cardinals defense was able to record two double plays and a pick-off. However, it was Sonny Gray who took the loss, allowing all six runs on eight hits and one walk while recording four punchouts. Winning pitcher Jacob Miriorowski allowed no hits in his five innings but conceded four walks. He struck out five Cardinal batters.

The Cardinals are now 36-33 and losers of their last five, falling six games behind the Cubs for the NL Central lead and three behind San Diego in the wild card chase. Erich Fedde will start Friday for the Redbirds, with first pitch at 7:10 p.m.
