A new mural in Downtown Sedalia will soon take flight after a pair of agreements were passed Monday night by the Sedalia City Council.

The council passed a license agreement with the owners of the building on 608 S. Ohio to allow the city to maintain a mural on the south side of the building, and a contract with HAVRE Graffiti to paint the new mural. Mayor Andrew Dawson says the mural will show a scene from one of the earliest Missouri State Fairs.

Dawson says he hopes the mural is completed in time for the start of this year’s fair, which runs August 7-17.

Elsewhere in the downtown area, two buildings along Main Street were approved as recipients of funds from the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant from the National Park Service.

Mayor Dawson also reported that the city is awaiting the engineer’s official report concerning that structural safety of 207 W. Main, after city crews deemed the building to be in “imminent danger of collapse”, closing the sidewalk and eastbound lane in front of the structure.

Monday’s meeting of the Sedalia City Council also resulted in no votes taken after a closed session where hiring decisions were included on the list of items discussed. Dawson and city officials tell KMMO News that no decisions have been made concerning the hiring of a new city administrator, and that a decision was not made prior to June 14, when a council member had stated at a city event that the council had made their selection.
