Betty Smith Maxwell, 96, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Marshall MO. Born November 25, 1927, in Napton, MO, Saline County, Betty grew up in Houston County and graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Home Economics. In 1950, she married Thomas A. Maxwell, who served in the Navy as a career officer. Betty lived in several major metropolitan areas throughout the United States during his service; they retired to the family farm in Napton for the last half of their lives. He preceded her in death in May 2011.

Betty was a consummate homemaker, skilled in baking, cooking, sewing, gardening and decorating her home. She will be remembered for her creative centerpieces that followed the bounty of the natural world through the seasons.

Survivors are her four sons and their wives, John and Kit of St. Louis MO; Jim and Lisa, of Julian CA; Andy and Linda, of Vancouver BC Canada; and Willy, of Columbia MO; eight grandchildren; and nine great -grandchildren.

Her ashes will be interred at the Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Olive Rd. at a Celebration of Life ceremony on June 28, 2025, from 1 – 3 pm Saturday. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com
