The Saline County Collector’s Office is in the midst of processing applications from the county’s senior citizens who qualify for a property tax credit on their primary residence.

Collector Cindi Sims reported at last week’s county commission session that her office has received over 1370 applications, with 952 approval letters already sent. Sims says several of the remaining applications are awaiting approval, with some needing additional documents to verify a resident’s eligibility.

Saline County homeowners age 62 and older are eligible to apply for the credit on their primary residence. If approved, residents will see a tax credit on their statement equivalent to any increases in their assessed value, provided no additions or improvements have been made to the property. Sims says residents approved for the credit this year could see its impact as early as this fall.

Eligible Saline County residents have until Aug. 31 to complete the application process for the credit to be based on the value assessed for the 2024 tax year.
