The Sedalia Police Department is reminding residents of a city ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks in the city limits.
The ordinance states that it is “illegal to discharge fireworks within the city limits of Sedalia without a permit.” The Sedalia Police Department reports that the number of violations with this ordinance have grown over the years, with fireworks often being discharged with and around large crowds and with small children nearby.
The city of Sedalia is hosting a fireworks display on the Missouri State Fairgrounds on Friday, July 4. The police department has announced that additional officers are being deployed to the fairground to help enforce the ordinance. Additional officers are also being deployed city-wide to respond to calls for service and deter impaired driving.
Those attending the event on the fairgrounds will be directed to exit through either the Main gate on West 16th Street or the Centennial Gate on South Limit Avenue.
