A Waverly woman is behind bars after sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of domestic violence over the Fourth of July holiday.
According to court documents, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 8:50 p.m. Friday at a home on 280th Lane, east of Waverly. Deputies say upon their arrival, they found a man lying down on the deck outside the home with blood across his face, and a woman struggling with the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jerrian Martin. Martin allegedly attempted to pull the woman into the home by her hair.
Martin was initially restrained in the home and placed under arrest, but then spit in a deputy’s face and began to walk away from his patrol vehicle before another deputy arrived on the scene to assist. Deputies then used a taser on Martin when she refused to enter a second patrol vehicle. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment prior to going to the Saline County Jail, where she’s being held without bond.
After treating the two victims for their injuries, deputies received a call from a nearby orchard that a pickup had been abandoned near several damaged apple trees. Deputies identified the pickup as belonging to one of the victims, and later learned from that victim that Martin allegedly took the vehicle without his permission. A total of 44 apple trees were reported damaged or uprooted, ranging in age from seven to 20 years old, which the owner estimates caused about $8200 in losses.
Martin faces charges of domestic assault, assault of a special victim, first-degree property damage, tampering with a motor vehicle, and resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony. Her initial appearance in Saline County court is set for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
