A Marshall resident has returned from her trip down the Missouri River, completing a solo excursion as part of the MR340 in just under 54 hours.

Dr Sherri Ulbrich finished third in the women’s solo paddle division and 32nd overall out of the nearly 400 boats that took part in this week’s race. Ulbrich says the weather was favorable for completing this year’s race.

Ulbrich and her family first took up kayaking five years ago as a way to stay active outdoors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her interest in competing in the MR340 followed shortly.

In the run-up to the race, Ulbrich regularly made long trips down the river close to her home, testing out techniques to increase her endurance and comfort.

Ulbrich credits her family’s support as ground crew for her success in this year’s MR340, as well as residents along the river who turned out to cheer for all the boaters.
