For a second consecutive year, sales tax collections for Saline County during the month of June were lower when compared to a strong May.

Treasurer Jared Brewer presented the monthly sales tax report during Wednesday’s session of the Saline County Commission. According to the numbers from the Missouri Department of Revenue, $115,256.69 in sales tax revenue was collected during June and remitted to the county at the beginning of this month. That’s 14 percent lower than May, which was the second-highest monthly collection on record for Saline County, but 5.5 percent better than the same month a year ago. Similar figures were collected for the economic development and law enforcement taxes.

Use tax collections were also lower from the previous month, totaling $83,748.97 in June. That’s a 15-percent drop from May, but 22 percent stronger than the same month a year ago.

Year-to-date, Saline County has collected close to $810,000 each in sales tax, economic development, and law enforcement tax revenues, slightly off from last year’s totals. Use tax collections are up 14 percent year-to-date compared to the previous year. As of July, the county is averaging $115,600 collected per month in each of the three sales tax categories, while averaging $97,163.51 in use tax collections.
