Willson Contreras and Masyn Winn both went three-for-five to lead the St Louis Cardinals to a 6-2 victory over Colorado Rockies on Monday, July 21 in Denver.
Both Contreras and Wynn helped the Cardinals get past a third inning that saw baseball’s worst team plate two on a pair of RBI singles. Contreras sent a solo home run to left-center field to lead off the fourth, while Winn followed Nolan Arenado’s one-out double with a double of his own to score Arenado and tie the game. Contreras singled in the game-winning run in the fifth, with a line drive to left field to score Brendan Donovan. The Cardinals added two runs in the sixth with a single from Pedro Pagés and sacrifice fly by Donovan. Jordan Walker brought Contreras home in the seventh with a one-out single to cap the scoring.
Michael McGreevy went seven innings for the win, allowing the two Rockies runs on seven hits while adding a punchout. JoJo Romero and Phil Maton each had two strikeouts in relief to close out the game.
The Cardinals remain fourth in the NL Central at 52-49, now 8.5 games behind the Brewers as well as 3.5 behind the Padres for the third wild card spot. Erich Fedde will start for the Cardinals on Tuesday; first pitch is at 7:40 p.m.
