A Boonville man has been arrested and charged after authorities responded to a shooting north of the city on Thursday, July 24.

Boonville Police were dispatched to the area of Main Street and High Street in Boonville after a victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Witnesses identified the shooter as 39-year-old Johntelle Millens.

Members of the Boonville Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control continued their investigation of the incident and located Millens at a relative’s residence. Found near Millens was a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. Millens claimed he was not involved in the shooting. He was arrested and taken to the Howard County Jail.

Millens has been charged with felonies for assault in the first degree, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held without bond.

Millens is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 at Howard County Circuit Court.
