Two offices at the Saline County Courthouse have spent part of their July addressing damage from heavy rains entering their work areas.
The Saline County Commission reported at their session Wednesday, July 30 that both the auditor’s office and prosecuting attorney’s office, located on the first floor of the courthouse, have experienced flooding and water damage following storms that have dropped heavy rain on Marshall. Auditor Karlin Breshears tells KMMO News that water damage first appeared in her office July 16, after a rainfall totaled 4.74 inches. The flooding has resulted in damp carpets and a continual need to run a dehumidifier. Damage was also reported at the prosecutor’s office stemming from the July 25 storm that dropped 2.49 inches of rain.
A video provided by the Commission of Wednesday morning’s rain storm, posted below, showed one of the gutters leading to an underground pipe overwhelmed by the rainfall, with water pooling at a nearby window. Commissioners report that new weather stripping and door jams will be installed to prevent any future flooding.
