An iconic fixture in the Sedalia Parks and Recreation system is undergoing a major renovation.

Crews with Parks and Recreation began draining the pond at Liberty Park after the Missouri Department of Conservation removed the fish from the lagoon, ahead of the project to replace and clean the pond’s lining. Parks director Amy Epple says the project began shortly after the Fourth of July.

Epple says the work at the pond is among several upgrades planned for Liberty Park over the next year. As part of the pond repairs, Epple adds that Sedalia Public Works crews will improve the stormwater system along Liberty Park Boulevard, the north edge of the park.

Also returning to Liberty Park in the near future is the miniature railroad. Epple says the train has been refurbished and is back at the park. She notes that once it passes the required safety inspection and crews receive training, the train should return to service in September.
