A Marshall man could spend the rest of his life behind bars after a jury convicted him Thursday, Aug. 21 on charges that he committed rape and incest.

Court records indicate that after a two-day trial in Saline County Circuit Court, jurors convicted 48-year-old Lisandro Granados Alvarez on five of the six charges he faced: two counts of incest and one count each of statutory rape, first degree rape, and domestic assault. Jurors did not convict Granados Alvarez on a lesser charge of tampering with a victim. Prosecutors say that Granados Alvarez first assaulted a victim in 2018, and then in February 2022. He was arrested the following month and held without bond.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for the morning of Oct. 20. An assessment report from the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole is underway, and attorneys for Granados Alvarez have ten days to file motions, which be considered at the hearing.
