One of the major projects funded by bonds approved in April by patrons of the Norborne R-VIII School District is nearing completion.

Supt. Jennifer Courtney says construction crews spent the summer renovating the school’s kitchen and cafeteria, and they’re about to apply the finishing touches.

Courtney provided the update during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. Among Monday’s agenda items, board members received the annual report from the district’s gifted education program, highlighting the completion of its first year.

The Norborne R-VIII school board also continued discussions on establishing a track program with Hardin-Central. They also approved adding eighth grade to the district’s competitive cheer program, and set a meal reimbursement rate for district employees at $25 per day. The board also approved the purchase of a Byrna gun for use by the district’s school resource officer.
