A Sedalia resident was scheduled for arraignment Friday, Sept. 12 on five charges including rape and kidnapping.
72-year-old Francisco Reyes was indicted earlier this week by a Pettis County grand jury on charges stemming from incidents that are believed to have occurred at his residence in Sedalia, with the victim believed to be a juvenile relative. According to the probable cause statement, the victim told investigators that in August 2024, she had gone to Reyes’ house to ask him for money. That’s when Reyes is alleged to have locked the door, restrained and assaulted her, then told her not to tell anyone. The statement also notes that family members told authorities that Reyes had been observed exposing himself to the victim on another occasion, and had attempted to assault her a second time.
Reyes was arrested in June, and remains in jail with bond set at $100,000. He is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Guatemala, and is also facing a charge of illegal re-entry into the U.S.
