A Clarence man is facing an assault charge after a stabbing reported Wednesday, Sept. 10 in Macon County.

According to a probable cause statement, Macon County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a stabbing around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday evening at an address near Atlanta. When deputies arrived, they discovered a male victim on the tailgate of a truck in the drive. Deputies say the victim had multiple stab wounds to the back of his neck and head, one on the front of his neck, and one in his left hand. He was taken to a nearby hospital before he was flown to Columbia for further treatment.

While deputies were en route, they learned that the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Charles Trevor Reed IV, had left the address and was spotted south along a county road, driving a zero-turn mower. Deputies noted in their statement that the victim named Reed as the assailant. A manhunt took place overnight, prompting the nearby Atlanta C-3 School to initiate additional security measures Thursday morning as a precaution. Reed was turned into the sheriff’s office by his grandfather around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Reed faces a charge of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He’s being held without bond, pending his initial hearing Monday at 11 a.m. in Macon County Circuit Court.
