Despite a drop in month-to-month collections, use tax revenues for Saline County remained higher year-over-year, staying in line with the county’s sales tax revenue.
According to figures from the Missouri Department of Revenue that county treasurer Jared Brewer presented at last Wednesday’s Saline County Commission session, the county collected $83,417.17 in use tax during August, which the state remitted to the county earlier this month. The total is nine percent below July’s collections, but nearly 17 percent better than collections for the same month a year ago. Year to date use tax collections total $855,690.71, averaging $95,076.75 per month.
The county’s sales, law enforcement, and economic development taxes were up two percent for the month of August and almost eight percent year-over-year. Sales tax totals for August were $123,729.51, with a similar total for the economic development tax, as well as both law enforcement taxes when grouped together. Year-to-date totals for each now exceed one million dollars, with an average of $117,125.40 per month.
Also at Wednesday’s session, Brewer presented the results of last month’s tax certificate sale on behalf of collector Cindi Sims. Brewer informed the commission that two lots sold at the sale, generating revenue of $7917.88. He added that the collector’s office accepted about $216,000 in tax collections during August.
