Charges have been filed in Saline County Circuit Court against a Sweet Springs man accused of shooting another man in the arm.

According to a probable cause statement, 42-year-old Christopher “Joey” Miller and a second man are alleged to have confronted the male victim as he arrived at a residence in Saline County on the afternoon of June 15th. A witness in the residence told authorities that she heard a gunshot and then saw the victim approach the residence, telling her that Miller shot him in the upper arm. The witness also identified a vehicle that she said Miller left the residence in; the vehicle was discovered the following day at a Marshall address. The statement goes on to detail subsequent conversations with the witness, who said the victim was sitting is the truck when he was shot.

Deputies attempted to interview the victim, who had been detained on outstanding warrants after seeking treatment at an area hospital. After initially refusing to cooperate, the victim then agreed to visit with investigators. According to the statement, the victim told deputies that Miller had been a childhood friend before the two had fallen out, and that he believed Miller and two other men were seeking to “jump” him over a debt. The victim then noted that the bullet was still in his arm.

Miller was charged Friday, Sept. 12 in Saline County Circuit Court with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as conspiracy to commit a felony. He was arrested in July after a separate incident north of Sedalia and is being held in Pettis County Jail without bond, with his next hearing scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18.
