Pettis County residents are encouraged to dispose of their unwanted materials at a community cleanup event Saturday, Sept. 20 in Sedalia.

The City of Sedalia and Pettis County Commission, along with the West Central Missouri Solid Waste Management District, will accept unwanted junk from residents at the Sedalia Materials Management Facility on Route U this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is open to Pettis County residents only and not businesses. Acceptable items include furniture and clothes, electronic scrap, bulk debris, and up to two appliances her home. Freon-based appliances like refrigerators and window units will not be accepted, nor will yard waste or household hazardous waste. Tires will be accepted without rims at a fee of $2 each for the first four, then $5 for each additional tire.

In addition to the dropoff, a reuse swap area will be available for residents to drop and swap reusable items including furniture and appliances. Residents who have questions, or wish to volunteer to help with the event, can call the solid waste management district at 660-619-3652 or visit the district’s website.
